To summarize, each tumbler has specific operating instructions, so read the manual carefully. But in general, all vibratory tumblers work similarly. So, let’s look at how to use a vibratory tumbler.

Vibratory Rock Tumbler Steps

Using a vibratory tumbler doesn’t need any special skills. But it would help if you kept a few things in mind to get the best results.

Before you start, you will need the following supplies:

  • Rocks that you want to polish and I’d recommend different types of Jasper, Agate, or Petrified Wood to start.
  • Grit
  • Water
  • A bowl or tub

Step 1: Start with Clean Rocks

You can clean the rocks overnight and soak them in vinegar and water.

Step 2: Choose the Right Size Tumbler for Your Rocks

If you have large rocks, you’ll need a larger tumbler. You can, contrarily, tumble small stones in a smaller tumbler.

Step 3: Add the Right Amount of Water

You’ll need to add enough water to cover the rocks, but the amount of water you add will depend on the size of your tumbler.

Step 4: Add the Right Amount of Grit

Grit is what does the actual polishing, so you’ll need to add enough to get the job done. The grit you use will depend on the type of rocks you’re polishing.

Step 5: Start and Run the Tumbler for the Recommended Amount of Time

The tumbling time will vary depending on the type of rocks you’re polishing.

Step 6: Stop the Tumbler and Check on the Rocks

Once the tumbling time is up, stop the tumbler and check on the rocks. If they’re not polished to your liking, you can add more grit and run the tumbler for extended periods.

Step 7: Remove the Rocks from Tumbler

Once the tumbling is complete, remove the rocks and rinse them off. Your rocks should now be polished and ready to display!

Buying and Using Vibratory Rock Tumblers

If you’re looking for a vibratory rock tumbler, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, decide what size and type of tumbler you need. Second, consider what features are most important to you. And finally, read reviews to see which model is best for you.

Researching online or talking to other rock hobbyists can help you narrow your options and choose the best tumbler.

  1. Have go through 2 Lot O Tumblers in 3 years. The welds do not hold up, cracking occurs, vibrating action diminished terribly. Don’t think it’s from overloading as I kept it 1.5 to 2 inches below the top. Disappointed.
